Wikipedia says: Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second-generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between user.

The online world is incessantly changing, with advances in technology. We now have what has been termed as Web 2.0. a technology also considered the ’second generation’ of the Internet.The fact is that the second generation of computer users is now online. People use computers more than the first generation of computer users did for their personal and professional lives, the reason we have Web 2.0 concepts.

Web 2.0 is indeed a concept, not an upgraded version of a software or internet, it’s the way people use internet now. Earlier days you could browse internet, download, email and interact on forums, the pretty much extent of it. But now it has changed – you can visit a webpage and actually interact with it, people have their say with blogs. If you come across a useful site, you can let it be know with social bookmarking sites. Now having a website up and running is a matter of hours, not weeks. You can post your videos for others to see, the main idea is interactivity. Aren’t the things changing?

The basic common characteristics of Web 2.0 are:

1. A rich interactive user friendly interface.
2. Social networking aspects.
3. Architecture of participation.
4. Users owning the data on internet.
5. Network as a platform.
